Players Navy Cut De Luxe tobacco counter card. In the top, oval section is a dockside scene with two naval officers in eighteenth century uniform outside a building which is probably an inn under the sign of a ship. Both carry telescopes and one smokes a pipe. In the background is a moored ship and three more figures in eighteenth century costume. The caption reads " On Leave". Below the picture are two copies of the sailors head in a life-buoy trade mark and an open tin of tobacco. The text reads " PLAYERs NAVY CUT // DE LUXE // A SUPERB TOBACCO // OLD FASHIONED // BUT CHOICELY GOOD... IN 2oz & 4oz AIRTIGHT TINS". On the reverse is a support to allow the card to stand upright and a hanging loop. There is an imperfect rubber stamp which reads " 13 JUN 1921"

EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print captures a nostalgic scene from the past, showcasing a Players Navy Cut De Luxe tobacco counter card from 1921. In the top oval section of the card, we are transported to a dockside setting where two naval officers in eighteenth-century uniforms stand outside what appears to be an inn adorned with a ship sign. Both officers carry telescopes, immersing themselves in their surroundings while one enjoys his pipe. A moored ship and three additional figures dressed in period costumes complete the charming backdrop. The caption beneath this delightful image simply reads "On Leave" evoking a sense of relaxation and respite for these sailors away from their duties at sea. Positioned below the picture are two copies of a sailor's head within a life-buoy trademark, accompanied by an open tin of tobacco. The text accompanying these elements proudly promotes PLAYERs NAVY CUT DE LUXE as "A Superb Tobacco" that is both old-fashioned yet exquisitely good, available in 2oz and 4oz airtight tins. On the reverse side of this card lies practicality - it features support allowing it to stand upright or be hung using its convenient loop. Additionally, an imperfect rubber stamp reveals its creation date as June 13th, 1921. This photograph not only serves as advertising for John Player and Sons but also offers us glimpses into history through its depiction of uniformed men on shore leave during simpler times when tobacco was enjoyed leisurely amidst picturesque coastal landscapes.
