Kilbowie Park Stadium - Clydebank FC

Kilbowie Park, also known as New Kilbowie Park, was a football stadium in Clydebank, Scotland. It was the home ground of Clydebank.
New Kilbowie was built for Clydebank Juniors in 1939. In 1964, Clydebank merged with East Stirlingshire and entered the Scottish Football League. A record attendance of 14, 900 was set by a visit of Hibernian in February 1965. Floodlights were first used in a match against Sunderland in the same month. The merger collapsed after a legal battle, but Clydebank entered the league in their own right in 1966.
Clydebank were promoted to the Premier Division in 1977. A covered plastic-seated stand was built, which was funded by selling star player Davie Cooper for £100, 000 to Rangers. To avoid having to apply legislation affecting stadium safety, the club installed wooden benches that reduced the capacity to 9, 950. This was below the 10, 000 limit at which the legislation started to apply

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the historic Kilbowie Park Stadium, home to Clydebank FC in Scotland. Built in 1939 for Clydebank Juniors, this stadium holds a rich footballing legacy. In 1964, after merging with East Stirlingshire, Clydebank entered the Scottish Football League and witnessed a record attendance of 14,900 during a match against Hibernian in February 1965. The introduction of floodlights further enhanced the stadium's allure. During their rise to prominence, Clydebank earned promotion to the Premier Division in 1977. To fund improvements at Kilbowie Park, including a covered plastic-seated stand, star player Davie Cooper was sold to Rangers for an impressive £100,000. However, due to legislation affecting stadium safety capacities exceeding 10,000 seats required additional measures. As a result, wooden benches were installed reducing capacity to 9,950. The resilience and determination of Clydebank FC are evident as they overcame legal battles following the merger collapse and successfully entered the league on their own merit in 1966. This print not only captures the physical beauty of Kilbowie Park Stadium but also symbolizes the unwavering spirit of this iconic football club. Sports Stadia Art has masterfully preserved this piece of history through their stunning artwork that celebrates both sport and culture without commercial intentions.
