He sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1614 and 1644.
From 1615 to 1618, he was ambassador to the court at Agra, India, of the Great Mogul, Jahangir. The principal object of the mission was to obtain protection for the East India Companys factory at Surat. At the Mughal court, Roe allegedly became a favorite of Jahangir and may have been his drinking partner. This greatly enhanced Roes status with the Mughals. ); © Bradford Museums & Galleries

This oil and pencil on canvas masterpiece measures 52.5x110.5 cm and is housed in the Bradford Art Galleries and Museums in West Yorkshire, UK. The painting depicts Sir Thomas Roe, an English diplomat from the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras, during his time as ambassador to the court at Agra, India in the early 17th century.
