Endeavour's Last Fly: A Farewell to the Space Shuttle Era This photograph captures the historic final moments of Space Shuttle Endeavour's journey as it glides over the city of Los Angeles, California, on its way to its retirement home at the California Science Center. Taken by renowned photographer Andrew J. Lee, this image encapsulates the awe-inspiring legacy of NASA's Space Shuttle Program and the bittersweet emotions that accompanied the end of an era. The Space Shuttle Endeavour, the fifth and final operational orbiter in NASA's Space Shuttle fleet, embarked on its last mission, STS-134, in April 2011. After 126 missions and over 300 days spent in space, Endeavour returned to Earth for the very last time on June 1, 2011. In a poignant farewell, the spacecraft was transported from Kennedy Space Center in Florida to Los Angeles, California, for public display. As Endeavour flew over the iconic Los Angeles skyline, the city came together to pay tribute to this remarkable spacecraft and the groundbreaking achievements of the Space Shuttle Program. The sight of the majestic Endeavour against the backdrop of the urban landscape served as a poignant reminder of the incredible feats of human innovation and exploration. Andrew J. Lee's photograph, "Endeavour's Last Fly," beautifully encapsulates the essence of this historic moment, offering a lasting tribute to the Space Shuttle Era and the indelible impact it had on our collective imagination and understanding of the universe.
