Ship-Queen Elizabeth
Britains giant liner " Queen Elizabeth", the largest ship ever built at the time of her construction, sails down the Atlantic Ocean, in 1940. Launched on 27 September 1938, the Queen Elizabeth was the second of the two superliners which sailed the Atlantic Ocean for Cunard Line, after serving as a troopship for World War II. She made her final Atlantic crossing in November 1968. Following a fire, she was scrapped in Hong Kong in 1975. (Photo by - / AFP)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the majestic Ship-Queen Elizabeth, Britain's giant liner, as it gracefully sails down the vast Atlantic Ocean in 1940. A symbol of engineering marvel and opulence, this magnificent vessel was hailed as the largest ship ever built during its time of construction. Launched on 27 September 1938, the Queen Elizabeth proudly served Cunard Line as one of their two superliners traversing the Atlantic. However, her destiny took a turn when she became a vital troopship during World War II. Witnessing countless journeys across treacherous waters, she played an instrumental role in transporting troops to various war zones. In November 1968, after years of faithful service connecting continents and carrying passengers from all walks of life, the Queen Elizabeth embarked on her final transatlantic voyage. Sadly, tragedy struck when a devastating fire engulfed her hull. Despite valiant efforts to salvage her grandeur, she met her ultimate fate in Hong Kong in 1975 where she was dismantled. This remarkable photograph serves as a poignant reminder of an era gone by—a testament to human ingenuity and resilience amidst turbulent times. It encapsulates both the awe-inspiring scale of this iconic liner and its historical significance as part of our shared maritime heritage.
