EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the Corinthian F. C. team group before their game against West Bromwich Albion on March 28,1925. The match served as a test for the proposed offside rule, adding historical significance to this moment frozen in time. Standing at the back, we see A. Boddington, Alfred Baishe George Bower, Benjamin Howard Baker, Lionel Bruce Blaxland - all esteemed players with remarkable achievements. Bower holds the distinction of being the last amateur player to captain England and earned five caps for his country. Baker showcased his versatility by representing Great Britain in both high jump and triple jump events at the Olympics in 1912 and 1920 respectively. Blaxland not only excelled as a WW1 flying ace but also displayed his cricketing skills for Derbyshire between 1925 and 1947. In the front row are Arthur Thomas Davies, N. Partridge, Fred Norman S. Creek, G. B Partridge, Kenneth Jackie Hegan, T. Flemming - each contributing their unique talents to the Corinthian team's success during that era. Notably among them is Creek who managed British Olympic teams in subsequent decades and was one of two broadcasters providing BBC Radio commentary on an FA Cup Final in 1936. It is worth mentioning that Hegan proudly represented England with four caps while also participating in numerous England amateur games alongside playing for Great Britain at the Antwerp Olympics in 1920. Although Corinthian eventually merged with Casuals Football Club to form Corinthian-Casuals Football Club later on (excluding commercial use), this photograph immortalizes a significant chapter from their rich history within football's annals.
