EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Quanah Parker, a prominent figure in Native American history. Taken by an anonymous American photographer in the 19th century, this image is now preserved by the Dallas Historical Society in Texas, USA. Quanah Parker, born around 1845, belonged to the tribe of the Pampa region of Texas. Known for his resilience and leadership skills, he was never captured despite numerous attempts by authorities. However, eventually he made the decision to surrender to what was perceived as "the White Man's Culture". In this portrait, we see Quanah Parker seated on a porch with a commanding presence that reflects his status as chief of the Comanches. His full-length posture exudes strength and dignity while capturing his tribal heritage. As one gazes upon this photograph, it becomes evident that Quanah Parker embodies both the struggles and triumphs of Native Americans during a turbulent era in North America's history. This image serves as a powerful reminder of their rich cultural heritage and resilience against adversity.
