EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment in history at Epsom in May 1936, featuring Racing legend Lord and Lady Rosebery alongside the Hon Mrs C Wood. Lord Rosebery, known for his successful horses trained by J L Jarvis at Newmarket, was not only a prominent figure in the racing world but also served as Captain of Surrey CCC in the early 1900s. The image showcases Lady Rosebery and the Hon Mrs Charles Wood flanking Lord Rosebery, exuding elegance and sophistication. Lord Rosebery's classic winner Sandwich, who triumphed in the St Leger in 1931, is a testament to his prowess as a horse owner. Despite sustaining injuries during wartime service, including being mentioned in despatches four times and receiving prestigious military honors such as the MC, DSO, and The Legion of Honour - Lord Rosebery continued to excel both on and off the racetrack. This photograph serves as a timeless reminder of an era when passion for horse racing intertwined with aristocratic grace. The legacy of Lord and Lady Rosebery lives on through this snapshot frozen in time.
