Boadicea and Her Daughters - A Powerful Tribute to British History

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print showcases the magnificent bronze sculpture group titled "Boadicea and Her Daughters" created by Thomas Thornycroft in 1885. Considered his magnum opus, this masterpiece stands proudly on the corner of Westminster Bridge and Victoria Embankment in London. The statue depicts Boadicea, also known as Boudicca, the fearless Queen of the Iceni tribe during ancient Britain. Accompanied by her two daughters, she is portrayed mounted on a scythed chariot drawn by two rearing horses. The sheer power emanating from this sculptural ensemble is awe-inspiring. Thornycroft dedicated nearly three decades to perfecting every intricate detail of this work before his passing in 1885. Assisted at times by his son William Hamo Thornycroft, he poured his heart into capturing the spirit and strength of Boadicea's story. Although not erected until 1902, this iconic statue has become an emblematic symbol of British history and culture. It serves as a reminder of Boadicea's indomitable spirit and her fierce resistance against Roman invaders during AD 61. As we gaze upon this photograph, we are transported back in time to witness a pivotal moment in history—a testament to the enduring legacy of one remarkable queen and her unwavering determination.
