Dating back to the 12th century, these intricate artifacts are believed to have originated from Norway. Amongst them, we find an intriguing depiction of wild-eyed berserkers fiercely biting their shields. Crafted predominantly from Walrus ivory and a few from whale teeth, these chess pieces take various forms such as seated kings and queens, mitred bishops, knights mounted on horses, standing warders, and pawns shaped like obelisks. Each piece is meticulously detailed and evokes a sense of medieval royalty and warfare. The beserker figures in this particular photograph command attention with their intense stares and menacing postures. These warriors were known for their ferocity in battle and were often associated with Norse mythology.
