EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning full-length portrait depicts Hedvig Eleonora, Queen of Sweden and Princess of Holstein-Gottorp, in the mid-late 17th century. Painted by the renowned Dutch artist Abraham Wuchters, the oil on copper masterpiece captures the regal elegance and sophistication of the Queen. Hedvig Eleonora is dressed in the fashionable attire of the Baroque era, with a voluminous black gown adorned with intricate gold embroidery and lace. Her hair is styled in elaborate curls and adorned with pearls and jewels. The painting also features a pageboy in a red and gold outfit, standing to the Queen's left, adding an element of youth and playfulness to the image. Hedvig Eleonora was a member of the House of Oldenburg, a German royal dynasty, and became Queen of Sweden in 1654 following the death of her husband, King Christian X of Denmark. She ruled Sweden until her own death in 1715. This portrait is a testament to the opulence and grandeur of the European monarchy during the Baroque era. It is currently housed in the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Sweden, where it is a cherished piece of heritage art and a reminder of the rich history and cultural heritage of the country.
