Captured in 1878 by Lock & Whitfield, this portrait highlights Russell's distinguished career and contributions to shipbuilding. Originally from Scotland, Russell relocated to London in 1844 where he constructed four large steamships for the West India Royal Mail Company: Teviot, Tay, Clyde, and Tweed.
