Silver parcel-gilt nef or ship of unusually large dimensions, the body of the ship and above the stand embossed with elaborate ornaments: numerous figures on the deck and on the rigging. This stunning print captures the intricate details of a silver parcel-gilt nef from 1862, part of The Loan Collection at South Kensington. The nef, or ship, is depicted in unusually large dimensions with elaborate embossed ornaments adorning the body and stand. Figures can be seen on the deck and rigging, bringing this antique artifact to life.
Two hallmarks are visible on the piece - a shield with two bars and the letters B and D. Standing at an impressive height of 2 feet 8½ inches, this nef was once owned by Captain Leyland. Nefs were large medieval sailing ships used for transporting valuable goods across seas.
