Saint Nicholas of Bari, also known as Saint Nicholas of Myra, is depicted in this stunning 17th-century painting by the Neapolitan artist Luca Giordano. The work, titled "Saint Nicholas of Bari Saves the Young Cupbearer," is a testament to the saint's reputation as a miracle worker and patron of children. The scene unfolds in a grand, ornate room filled with the opulence of the time. A clergyman, possibly the young cupbearer's father, stands in despair as his son hangs precariously from the edge of a balcony, about to plunge into the cold, dark waters below.
