This striking head-and-shoulders portrait of Abraham Lincoln was captured by renowned artist Charles A. Barry during a sitting in Springfield, Illinois, in June 1860. At the time, Lincoln was campaigning for the Republican nomination for the presidency. The image shows Lincoln facing right, with a serious expression and piercing gaze. His hair is parted in the middle and slicked back, revealing a prominent forehead and deep-set eyes. The folds of his suit coat are crisp and well-defined, adding to the sense of formality and gravitas. Charles A.
