A Canadian contingent, a patriotic family party for the front - Captain O. A. Critcheley, a Canadian with a large ranch in Alberta pictured with his three sons, who had all patriotically come to Britain to serve in the First World War. From left to right are Mr W. R. Critchley, who was running a machine gun detachment in an infantry battalion, Captain A. C. Critchley, Captain O. A. Critchley and Mr J. A. Critchley, all of Strathcnas Horse. Captain A. C Critchley and Mr J. A. Critchley were in the Canadian Regulars and played in their regimental polo team. Captain Alfred Cecil Critchley went on to found the Greyhound Racing Association in Britain, and was a popular member of society, known as Critch. His father became steward of the organisation. From left to right, we see William Robert Critchley, running a machine gun detachment in an infantry battalion; Captain Alfred Cecil Critchley, the founder of the Greyhound Racing Association in Britain and a popular society figure, known as "Critch"; and John Albert Critchley, both of whom served in the Strathcona Horse and played in their regimental polo team. Captain A.C. Critchley and J.A. Critchley were part of the Canadian Regulars. The Critchley family's deep connection to Canada is evident in their Canadian uniforms, and their strong commitment to the cause is reflected in their determined expressions.
