This exquisite detail is taken from the fifth leaf of the Catalan Atlas, a magnificent illuminated manuscript created between 1375 and 1385 in Catalonia, Spain. The leaf depicts a section of the map of Delli, which focuses on the Silk Road, an ancient trade route connecting Europe and Asia.
