This portrait captures Winifred Freda Dudley Ward (1894-1983), the enigmatic figure who once held the heart of the Prince of Wales, later to become King George VI, as his first great love. Known as Freda, she is depicted here with her two daughters, Penelope and Angela, in a photograph published in The Tatler magazine in 1918. Freda, the former mistress of the Duke, is elegantly dressed in a flowing gown, exuding an aura of sophistication and allure.
