Miss Myrtle Newton of Cambridge who had accepted the post of motor car driver at the Kings Head Hotel in Cirencester on the understanding that by so doing she would release a man for service during the First World War. Miss Newton was an interesting example of many women who took on traditional male jobs during the Great War. The Tatler comments that not only was she a skilled driver but she cleaned the car and did all repairs herself with complete competence and efficiency. Date: 1915
