This stunning 2nd century Romanesque fresco depicts the Flight into Egypt, an episode from the infancy narrative of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. The painting was discovered in the Church of Navarra, now housed in the Diocesan Museum of Jaca in the Spanish region of Aragon. The late 12th century mural showcases the distinctive Romanesque artistic style prevalent during the Middle Ages in Europe. The scene illustrates the Holy Family's journey from Bethlehem to Egypt to escape King Herod's decree to kill all the male infants in an attempt to kill the newborn King of the Jews.
