The House of Inquisition, also known as the Holy Office, was an institution established by the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella, in 1478 to combat heresy and maintain religious uniformity in Spain. The shield, carved from stone, displays an elaborate design featuring a shinbone with a skull at its center, encircled by a cross and adorned with various decorative elements.
