Poster Prints from National Railway Museum

To Ireland, 1905

Original oil painting by Norman Wilkinson for a London & North Western Railway poster, showing a passenger ferry crossing the Irish Sea. Many British railway companies operated ferry services. Wilkinson was commissioned by several of the companies to produce artwork for use in posters promoting their services. The London and North Western Railway (LNWR) began operating ferries between Holyhead and Dublin in 1860, and continued to run passenger services across the Irish Sea until it became part of the London Midland & Scottish Railway Company (LMS) in 1923

National Railway Museum is the home of iconic locomotives. Our historic prints reflect the age and quality of the original artwork we hold to preserve their artistic character, including authentic colour reproduction, marks and creases.
