Lindberghs ticker-tape parade. US aviation pioneer Charles Lindbergh (1902-1974, seated at rear of car without a hat) became the first person to make a solo, non-stop flight across the Atlantic from New York, USA, to Paris, France. His flight in his monoplane, The Spirit of St. Louis, began at 7:25am on 20 May 1927 and lasted 33 hours and 32 minutes. Lindbergh achieved overnight world-wide fame. With him on 13 June 1927, in New York City, USA, in an open car in top hats, are Mayor Jimmy Walker (1881-1946, seated next to Lindbergh) and Grover Whalen (1886-1962, centre).
