5675698 MS Hunter 229 f.22r from the Hunterian Psalter, c.1170 (pen & ink, and tempera on vellum) by English School, (12th century); 29.2x19.1 cm; Glasgow University Library, Scotland; (add.info.: full-page illumination (9 5/8 x 6o), with medallions representing angels at the corners. The initial [B] is designed in an elaborately twisted pattern with nude figures and grotesques, while the remaining capital letters [EATVS UIR] are gilt on a ground of Venetian red, with white flecks, perhaps intended to represent red granite or porphyry.
