EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite 18th century oil painting depicts Fredrika Lovisa, Princess of Prussia, also known as Margravine Frederica of Bayreuth, in a stunning Baroque-era ensemble. The Princess, born in 1725, was the daughter of Margrave Christian Friedrich I of Bayreuth and Princess Sophie Louisa of Brandenburg-Ansbach. The portrait, believed to have been painted by the renowned French artist Antoine Pesne around 1725-1730, captures the young Princess in a moment of innocence and grace. Fredrika Lovisa is dressed in the fashionable attire of the time, with a voluminous hoopskirt made of crinoline fabric, supported by a large hoop. The petticoat is adorned with intricate floral patterns, adding to the elegance of the outfit. The Princess's dress is a rich, deep color, possibly red or burgundy, which contrasts beautifully with the white collar and cuffs. She is shown gesturing with one hand, adding a playful and engaging quality to the portrait. The painting is a testament to the opulence and grandeur of the Baroque era, with its ornate clothing and intricate details. It is currently housed in the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Sweden, and is a valuable addition to the museum's extensive collection of historic art and artifacts.
