Rear-Admiral Sir William Nathan Wright Hewett, 1882. Hewett (1834-1888) entered the Royal Navy as a volunteer in 1847. Awarded the Victoria Cross for his exploits at the Battle of Inkerman in 1854, he attained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1884. From Men of Mark: a gallery of contemporary portraits of men distinguished in the Senate, the Church, in science, literature and art, the army, navy, law, medicine, etc. Photographed from life by Lock and Whitfield, with brief biographical notices by Thompson Cooper.
