This Grave Stele, dating back to 400 BC, showcases a relief depicting a classical Greek funerary banquet scene. Discovered in the ancient site of Asklepieion in Piraeus, Athens, Greece, this masterpiece is now proudly displayed at the National Archaeological Museum. The central figure is a man, lying on a bed, clad in a himation and himation chiton, the traditional Greek attire. He is holding a Philae, a drinking cup, and a boy pours wine from a crater into it. A servant, dressed in a chiton and himation, stands nearby, ready to refill the crater. A woman, adorned in a chiton and himation stolé, sits at the man's feet, while a dog rests at the foot of the bed. The triclinium, a three-sided couch, is furnished with a table laden with food and drink, symbolizing a lavish feast. The scene represents the Greek belief in a farewell banquet for the deceased, where they would be joined by their loved ones and the gods in the afterlife.
