The image is based on a drawing by the renowned naturalist Alexander von Humboldt and was published in Edward Griffiths' seminal work, "The Animal Kingdom" by the Baron Cuvier, in London, 1824. The Golden-backed Uakari is a New World monkey native to the Amazon rainforests of South America. They are easily recognizable by their striking black face, golden-orange back, and long, bushy tail. This primate is a member of the uakari family, which also includes the White-faced Uakari and the Red-faced Uakari. The Golden-backed Uakari is a social species, living in groups of up to 30 individuals. They are primarily herbivorous, feeding on fruits, leaves, and bark.
