EDITORS COMMENTS
This cover of a White Star Line pictorial souvenir showcases the RMS Olympic, the sister ship to the ill-fated Titanic. The image, adorned with the iconic red and blue stars of the White Star Line, exudes an aura of luxury and elegance synonymous with ocean liners of the era. The RMS Olympic, launched in 1911, was the largest ship in the world at the time of her maiden voyage. This souvenir booklet, with its pullout centre section, was a popular memento for passengers on board the ship. This particular cover bears the history of a unique provenance. It was once the personal property of Edward Wheelton, a First Class Steward on the Titanic. Wheelton survived the tragic sinking of the Titanic in 1912 and later found employment on the RMS Olympic. The souvenir cover, lot 131, was sold at Henry Aldridge and Son auction on 18th September 2004. The acquisition of this artifact offers a tangible connection to the history of these magnificent vessels and the stories of the people who sailed on them.
