EDITORS COMMENTS
Peter IV, also known as Peter the Ceremonious or Peter of the Little Dagger, is depicted in this vibrant 19th century engraving as he triumphantly enters the city of Valencia in 1363. As the King of Aragon, Sardinia, and Corsica (as Peter I), King of Valencia (as Peter II), and Count of Barcelona and the rest of the Principality of Catalonia (as Peter III), Peter's claim to Valencia was a significant one. The crowd gathers at the city gates, their faces filled with joy and jubilance, as they welcome their new monarch. Peter, dressed in royal robes and wearing a crown, rides atop a magnificent horse, his banner held high. The army follows closely behind, their weapons at the ready, a testament to the power and might of the king and his forces. The iconic image of Peter's entry into Valencia is a symbol of the medieval Middle Ages, a time of grand ceremonies, pomp and pageantry, and the assertion of power and authority.
