Twnate Canal - Rangoon

Twnate Canal - Rangoon - We stopped at the official tollhouse and our junior officer captain had chairs and tables set out for our tea under a huge Ginko tree. The children wander off to watch boys playing drums and cymbals, flutes, bells and a battered big bamboo to be beaten with sticks. Wonderful syncopation. Date: 1952

EDITORS COMMENTS
A Moment of Tranquility on Twnate Canal, Rangoon (1952) - Amidst the bustling activity of Rangoon's Twnate Canal, our small boat came to a stop at the official tollhouse. Our junior officer captain, ever mindful of the comfort of his passengers, had chairs and tables set out under the shade of a towering Ginko tree. The children, having been entertained by the boys playing nearby, wandered off to watch as they skillfully played drums, cymbals, flutes, bells, and a battered big bamboo, beaten with sticks. The syncopated rhythms filled the air, adding a delightful soundtrack to this idyllic scene. The year was 1952, and the Burmese landscape was a beautiful blend of tranquility and vibrancy. The 50s in Burma, now known as Myanmar, were a time of simple pleasures, and this photograph captures a moment of respite amidst the daily hustle and bustle. The official tollhouse, with its worn wooden walls and thatched roof, stands as a testament to the rich history and culture of this fascinating country.
