EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the year 1941, when the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) sought to entice travelers to Redcar, a charming coastal town in Redcar & Cleveland. The poster, skillfully designed by Frank Henry Mason, showcases Zetland Park in all its glory. Zetland Park is a picturesque oasis nestled along the stunning coastline of Redcar. As we gaze upon this vintage artwork, we are transported to an era where rail travel was not only convenient but also an opportunity for adventure and exploration. Mason's artistic prowess shines through as he captures the essence of this idyllic park with meticulous detail. Lush greenery surrounds a serene lake that reflects the vibrant colors of blooming flowers. Families can be seen enjoying leisurely strolls along winding paths while children frolic on well-maintained lawns. The allure of Redcar's sandy beaches is subtly hinted at in the background, tempting visitors with promises of sun-soaked relaxation and invigorating sea breezes. This poster serves as a testament to Mason's ability to evoke emotions and transport viewers into dreamlike landscapes. As we admire this historical gem from the National Railway Museum's Pictorial Collection, let it remind us of simpler times when railway posters were not just advertisements but works of art that captured our imagination and beckoned us towards new horizons.
