CAD of spacecraft launched by magnetic levitation
Launch by magnetic levitation. Computer-aided des- ign (CAD) of a spacecraft being launched by maglev (magnetic levitation). This system uses magnets to float a vehicle along a track, and will reduce the cost of space travel. It could help launch a spac- ecraft from an airport runway to orbit every 90 minutes. Along with the low cost, this is hoped to entice ordinary people to journey into space. The magnetic field (red loops) accelerates the craft to 1000 kilometres per hour before launching it into the air, and a rocket then takes it to orbit. The project is being developed by NASA, Arrow Dynamics and PRT Systems in the USA, and engineers at the University of Sussex, England

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the computer-aided design (CAD) of a groundbreaking spacecraft launched by magnetic levitation. The innovative system utilizes magnets to effortlessly suspend and propel the vehicle along a track, revolutionizing space travel by significantly reducing costs. With this technology, it becomes possible to launch a spacecraft from an airport runway into orbit every 90 minutes, opening up new possibilities for exploration. The mesmerizing image depicts the spacecraft being accelerated to an astounding speed of 1000 kilometers per hour within the magnetic field's red loops before being propelled into the air. From there, a rocket takes over and propels it further into orbit. This ambitious project is a collaborative effort between NASA, Arrow Dynamics, PRT Systems in the USA, as well as engineers at England's University of Sussex. Not only does this cutting-edge development promise cost efficiency and enhanced transportation capabilities but also aims to entice ordinary people towards venturing into space. By making space travel more accessible and affordable than ever before, this breakthrough could potentially redefine our understanding of exploration beyond Earth's boundaries. This awe-inspiring artwork from Science Photo Library captures both the artistry behind CAD design and its potential impact on future space missions. It serves as a testament to human ingenuity and determination in pushing technological boundaries for scientific advancement.
