George Soros (b.1930), Hungarian-US financier and philanthropist. Soros was born as Schwartz Gyorgy at Budapest. In 1947 he emigrated to the UK and studied at the London School of Economics. In 1956 he moved to the USA to work as a financial broker. In 1970 he set up his own investment company. His 2011 estimated net worth is 14.5 billion US dollars. He has been a supporter of liberal political movements around the world since the 1970s, notably in apartheid South Africa, Eastern Europe and in opposing Republican politics in the USA.
