Tracks of the Curiosity rover on Mars. View looking back at a dune that NASAs Curiosity Mars rover drove across three days earlier. The distance between the parallel wheel tracks is about 2.7 metres. The dune is about 1 metre tall in the middle of its span across an opening called Dingo Gap (see C023/5796). This view looks eastward. The Curiosity rover is part of the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission. It landed on Mars on 6 August 2012, on a mission to investigate the Martian climate and geology. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the tracks left behind by NASA's Curiosity rover on the red planet, Mars. The image offers a mesmerizing view of the rover's path as it looks back at a dune that was crossed just three days prior. The parallel wheel tracks, separated by approximately 2.7 meters, provide evidence of the rover's journey across this Martian terrain. Standing tall in the middle of its span across an opening known as Dingo Gap, the dune reaches about one meter in height. This particular perspective allows us to gaze eastward and appreciate both the vastness and intricacies of Mars' landscape. The Curiosity rover is an integral part of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, which commenced on August 6th, 2012 with its successful landing on Mars. Equipped with advanced scientific instruments, Curiosity aims to delve into various aspects of Martian climate and geology. Captured on February 9th, 2014 using Mast Camera (Mastcam), this remarkable image serves as a testament to humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge beyond our home planet. It invites us to contemplate our place in the universe while marveling at mankind's ingenuity and determination to explore uncharted territories millions of miles away from Earth.
