City River Transport Water

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the bustling streets of Truro, Cornwall, around 1910. The view from Lemon Quay towards Back Quay offers a picturesque scene with the River Kenwyn at high tide. A fully laden sailing barge gracefully rests alongside the quay, symbolizing the importance of water transport in this vibrant town and port. In the distance, a group of people can be seen standing at the top of Green Street, their figures blending harmoniously with the trees that mark The Green. It's fascinating to observe how life unfolded on these historic streets over a century ago. On closer inspection, we notice John Julian's premises on the right-hand side. This establishment served as an auctioneer's house agent and valuer—a hub for business transactions and property dealings during that era. As our gaze extends further into the horizon, Truro School stands proudly atop a hill—an enduring symbol of education and knowledge within this thriving community. Although we cannot attribute this remarkable photograph to any specific photographer, its existence is testament to their skillful eye for capturing moments frozen in time. Preserved by Royal Cornwall Museum, this image allows us to appreciate Truro's rich history while marveling at its natural beauty and architectural heritage.
