Elbow flexion, artwork C016 / 6790

Elbow flexion. Artwork of the muscles of the arm from the front, with red arrows showing the direction of movement when flexing (bending) the elbow. The flexion here is shown from the 90 degrees position towards the maximum of 145 degrees (red arrows at top). This maximum is reached as the muscles of the forearm and upper arm come into contact and harden, especially the biceps brachii (red arrows, bottom). The main muscles involved in elbow flexion are the brachialis of the elbow, the brachioradialis of the forearm, and the biceps brachii of the upper arm. The nerve used is the musculocutaneous nerve. This is the left arm. For the right arm, see C016/6789

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photo print, titled "Elbow Flexion" offers a detailed illustration of the muscles in the arm during the process of bending the elbow. The artwork showcases the front view of the arm, with vibrant red arrows indicating the direction of movement when flexing. Starting from a 90-degree position, the image depicts how the elbow gradually reaches its maximum flexibility at 145 degrees. The visual emphasizes that as this range is achieved, various muscles within both the forearm and upper arm come into contact and strengthen, particularly highlighting the biceps brachii. Key contributors to elbow flexion include not only this upper arm muscle but also two others: brachialis and brachioradialis. Facilitating this movement is none other than our musculocutaneous nerve. Displayed against a clean white background, this scientifically accurate artwork provides valuable insights into human anatomy and physiology. Its meticulous depiction allows viewers to comprehend normal joint mechanics while appreciating muscular structures' intricate interplay. Ideal for educational purposes or anyone interested in biology or biomechanics, this print captures an essential aspect of our body's functionality—the ability to perform everyday tasks requiring hand movements effortlessly. With its cut-out style presentation and comprehensive labeling system encompassing tendons, ligaments, and specific muscle groups involved in elbow flexion—this artwork serves as an invaluable resource for anatomical study or simply admiring nature's design prowess.
