High endothelial venule. Transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through a high endothelial venule (HEV). Venules are tiny veins that transport deoxygenated blood from the capillary beds to the veins. HEVs are specialised post-capillary venous swellings characterised by plump endothelial cells (purple) as opposed to the usual thinner endothelial cells found in regular venules.
