Taken in 1885 when he served as President of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, Playfair's distinguished presence is evident. Hailing from Scotland, he began his academic journey studying chemistry under renowned scholars Thomas Graham and Liebig at Glasgow and Giessen respectively.
