This evocative photograph captures the bustling activity at Lushunkou Harbour in Dalian, Liaoning Province, China, circa 1905. Lushunkou, also known as Port Arthur and Ryojun, is a historic district and former Russian concession located on the Liaodong Peninsula. The harbour was a significant strategic and economic hub during the late Qing Dynasty and early 20th century, when Russia, Japan, and China vied for control of the region. In this image, we see a scene of daily life at the quay side. Russian sailors and local fishermen work together, loading and unloading cargo from the ships.
