EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the Nord Aviation N 500 Cadet (msn 001) at the Paris Air Show in June 1967, with airshow serial 344. Built by Nord in 1966, this unique aircraft was powered by two Allison T63-A-5A engines and featured two large five-bladed ducted propellers. Measuring just 22 feet long and weighing only 2,760 pounds, the Cadet was a marvel of engineering.
The innovative design included four control vanes in a diamond shape at the exit end of the ducts, allowing for precise pitch and yaw control. Despite its promising capabilities, only two Cadets were ever built - with the first used for static tests and the second making a tethered hover in July 1968 before being cancelled without further testing.
This rare glimpse into aviation history showcases the creativity and ingenuity of aerospace engineers during this era. The sleek lines and futuristic design of the Nord Aviation N 500 Cadet are truly captivating, making it a standout at airshows like Le Bourget.
