EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Glengarry badge of the 106th Regiment of Foot (Bombay Light Infantry), dating back to approximately 1874. The intricate design and craftsmanship of this glengarry badge are truly remarkable, reflecting the rich history and heritage of this esteemed regiment. Originally formed in 1839 as the 2nd Bombay (European) Regiment, it underwent a transformation into a light infantry unit five years later, leading to its name change. After serving valiantly during the Indian Mutiny from 1857 to 1859, it was transferred under British government control and given the prestigious position as the 106th Foot in the order of precedence. Intriguingly, this historic regiment would eventually merge with the renowned 68th Foot in 1881 to form The Durham Light Infantry. This amalgamation marked an important milestone in its evolution and further solidified its legacy within military history. The Glengarry badge serves as a symbol not only for this distinguished regiment but also for India's vibrant past. It represents bravery, loyalty, and dedication exhibited by soldiers who served under its banner throughout various conflicts. Preserved at London's National Army Museum, this photograph allows us to appreciate both artistic beauty and historical significance. As we gaze upon it, we are reminded of India's diverse culture and proud military traditions that have shaped our world today.
