Susanna and the Elders, 1822 Creator: Antonio Viviani (Italian, 1759-1825) Description: This black and white drawing, Susanna and the Elders, by the Italian artist Antonio Viviani, dates back to the 19th century. The work of art, which measures approximately 15.2 x 11.4 inches (38.6 x 29 cm), is a charcoal and graphite drawing on cream wove paper, laid down on another sheet of cream wove paper. The drawing is a depiction of a biblical scene from the Book of Daniel, Chapter 13. In this intriguing image, Susanna, a beautiful and virtuous woman, is shown bathing in her garden, unaware that two elders, who have been harassing her, have hidden and are watching her from a nearby bush.
