Engraving of the Imperial Saloon on Czar Alexander IIs steam yacht Livadia, built at John Elders shipyard, Govan, in 1880. Extremely lavishly fitted out, this yacht was given a radical design, supposedly based on the shape of a turbot. This flat fish design, 235 foot long, 153 foot wide at its beamiest and with only 6 foot draught, was very unsuccessful, with passengers complaining of extreme seasickness. The Livadia was broken up in 1927

Measuring an impressive 235 feet long and 153 feet wide at its beamiest, the Livadia boasted lavish fittings and luxurious decor throughout. However, despite its grandeur, the yacht was plagued by design flaws that led to extreme seasickness among passengers.
