Title: John Edwards (1637-1716) - The Calvinist Churchman John Edwards, born on October 13, 1637, was a prominent English churchman of Calvinist tendencies during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. This evocative image captures the essence of Edwards' profound dedication to his faith and his significant role in the history of Calvinism. Edwards was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and was ordained a deacon in the Church of England in 1660. However, his theological views began to lean towards Calvinism, which was not in alignment with the established Anglican doctrine. As a result, Edwards faced persecution and was ejected from his living in 1662. Despite the challenges, Edwards remained steadfast in his beliefs and continued to preach and write about Calvinist theology. He became a leading figure in the Nonconformist movement, which sought to establish independent churches outside the control of the Church of England. Edwards' most famous work, "Gospel Truths Opened," was published in 1674 and became a foundational text for English Calvinism. Edwards' influence extended beyond England, as he played a crucial role in the development of American Calvinism. In 1678, he was invited to become the pastor of a congregation in Boston, Massachusetts, where he remained until his death on March 24, 1716.
