Masterwort, Peucedanum ostruthium (previously known as Imperatoria ostruthium), is a herbaceous perennial plant native to Europe, North Africa, and western Asia. This stunning handcoloured copperplate engraving is an exquisite example of botanical illustration from Dr. Willibald Artus' Hand-Atlas sammtlicher mediinisch-pharmaceutischer Gewachse, published in Jena, Germany in 1876. Masterwort derives its common name from its historical use as a master herb in traditional medicine.
