EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the dedicated work of Otto Bader, a renowned Soviet archaeologist. In this snapshot taken in 1977, we see Bader diligently making notes at an archaeological dig in the Crimea area of Russia, situated on the picturesque shores of the Black Sea. Born in Germany, Bader collaborated with the USSR Academy of Sciences during his career in the mid-20th century. His expertise led him to excavate several significant palaeolithic sites such as Sungir and Kapova Cave. Bader's commitment to his field extended beyond his time with the academy; he also contributed to Perm State University (later known as Saint Petersburg State University). A true family legacy, his son Nikolai followed in his footsteps as an archaeologist. The image showcases an elderly Bader seated on a folding stool outdoors while engrossed in writing within a notebook - evidence of meticulous research and documentation. As one gazes upon this portrait frozen in time, it is impossible not to appreciate both the historical significance and human dedication represented by Otto Bader's presence. This photograph serves as a testament to his contributions towards unraveling our past through extensive excavation work and unyielding pursuit of knowledge.
