EDITORS COMMENTS
This photo print, titled "Launch site control JLP01_08_084525A" takes us back to the year 1970 in North Cotes, East Lindsey, Lincolnshire. The image captures a significant moment in history - the launch of the Northcoates oil pipeline. In the foreground stands a man holding a two-way radio, his presence symbolizing the coordination and communication required for such an ambitious project. The construction of this groundbreaking pipeline was no small feat. Laing Pipelines, along with French companies Entrepose and GTM, were responsible for the civil engineering work while Dredging and Construction Company partnered with Adriaan Volker of Rotterdam for dredging operations. This collaboration resulted in the successful placement of what was then considered to be the largest sea pipeline off the British coast. On June 16th at precisely 12:30 pm, after meticulous planning and hard work by countless individuals involved in its creation, this monumental undertaking reached its climax as it took three hours to complete its launch. The photograph serves as a testament to human ingenuity and determination. Preserved within Historic England Archive's collection, this image not only showcases remarkable engineering achievements but also offers insight into life during that era - capturing both people at work and machinery used during construction projects. It is an invaluable piece of our industrial heritage that reminds us how far we have come since those pioneering days.
