EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment of celebration and camaraderie amongst a group of hardworking individuals. Taken at Peel Common Waste Water Treatment Works in Fareham, Hampshire, the image showcases a team of workers toasting the launch of a twin barge from Woolston for the construction of the Peel Common Sewage Works outfall at Browndown. The significance behind this joyful occasion lies within Laing Civil Engineering's contracted project for the Southern Water Authority. As part of the South Hampshire Main Drainage Scheme, Laing was entrusted with constructing the Browndown Outfall - an underwater culvert spanning 1km that would transport treated sewage from Peel Common Sewage Works. The outfall was meticulously built in sections, which were then linked together on the seabed like an interconnected chain. In this snapshot frozen in time, we witness not only jubilation but also teamwork and unity. These dedicated workers have come together to accomplish something remarkable - improving sewage treatment and disposal systems for their community. Their shared sense of achievement is palpable as they raise their glasses in tribute to their collective efforts. Dating back to the 1970s, this photograph serves as a testament to both human ingenuity and collaboration. It reminds us that progress is often achieved through joint endeavors and highlights how even seemingly mundane tasks can be cause for celebration when accomplished together.
