His accomplishments earned him the Distinguished Service Cross, the Croix de Guerre, and the French Legion of Honor. Its distinctive red and blue markings, featuring a large white star and blue stripe, were emblems of the 94th Aero Squadron, the unit to which Rickenbacker belonged.
